*Athletes that qualify in or after August 2009 have the option of attending the 2009 or 2010 USAT Halfmax National Championship.

Qualify for Halfmax Championship In 2009

THE 2009 QUALIFYING PROCESS HAS BEEN UPDATED AND EXPANDED.
Please read the information below very carefully.

  • IN 2009 - There are still two ways to qualify for the TriSports.com USAT Halfmax National Championship.

  • OPTION ONE - Qualify at one of the Qualifying Events listed above. The Top 33% in each specific age and weight division at these races wil qualify for the Halmax Championship. NEW FOR 2009 - The Redman/Halfmax and The Pumpkinman Triathlon will serves as SUPER QUALIFIERS for 2010. The Top 45% will qualifying at these two evenets.

IMPORTANT NOTE : You CANNOT qualify for the Halfmax Championship by finishing in the Top 33% at other half iron distance events. Example: 70.3 Events. ents . Athletes that race in these Qualifying events still have the option of qualifying by times. You can only qualify by time at non-qualifying events! See Option Two!

  • OPTION TWO - You can qualify by time at any USAT SANCTIONED half iron distance or full iron distance event in the nation. You must qualify by the time standards at all events outside the qualfiying event network. Example: The only way to qualify at 70.3 events is by time standards. See Exception Below.
  • Exception NEW FOR 2009 - If an event outside the qualfiying network must cancel or shorten the swim, bike or run portion of the course, the Top 25% will qualify. Errors in course distance or measurements do not apply. Only course cancelations and critical adjustments will be considered for the Top 15% exception rule.

USAT HALFMAX CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING GUIDELINES

    1. Athletes can re-qualify at the 2009 TriSports.com USAT Halfmax National Championship. The Top 45% will qualify because of the Super Qualifier Status at that event.
    2. Athletes that do not finish in the top 33% of their age group/weight class division at an Official Qualifying event can still qualify by the established time standards at that event.
    3. Proof of qualification will be required for entry and before distribution of World Championship slots.
    4. Any qualifying event or qualifying time earned after August 1, 2009 will qualify the participant for their choice of either the 2009 or 2010 Halfmax Championship event.
    5. Any qualifying event or qualifying time earned after September 19, 2009 will qualify the participant for 2010 championship event.
    6. Athletes will qualify in their designated age group at the time of the event . Athletes racing in the Championship will participate in their current age group on the day of the Championship. For Example: It is possible to qualify in the 24-29 age group, then participate in the championship in the 30-34 age group.
    7. IMPORTANT: Athletes can only qualify at USA Triathlon Sanctioned Events!

Qualifying Option ONE

SELECT QUALIFYING EVENTS - Athletes that finish in the 33% of their age group at any of the Official Qualifying Events (listed above) will qualify to enter the 2009 and or 2010. USAT Halfmax National Championship. REMEMBER: You can also qualify by time at a qualifying event.

SUPER QUALIFIERS - The 09 Halfmax Championship and the Pumpkinman Triathlon will serve as our two Super Qualifyiing events. Athletes that finish in the 45% of their age group at these two events will qualify to enter the 2010 USAT Halfmax National Championship.

  • Qualifier status is determined by rounding to the nearest whole "racer". For example, if there are 23 people in your age group, the top 33% of that group is 7.59 people, so the top eight people will qualify.
  • If you qualify in or after August 1, 2009, you can choose to race in EITHER the 2009 or 2010 Championship.
  • If you qualify in or after August 1, 2008, you can race in the 2009 Championship.
  • You will compete in your age group as of December 31, 2009.
  • You will receive an official invitation (by e-mail) if you provided your e-mail address to the qualifying event, when you qualify at an Official Qualifying Event. YOU do not have to wait for the invitation to register for the Championship.

Qualifying Option TWO - 2009 QUALIFING TIMES

THE 2009 QUALIFYING TIMES HAVE BEEN ADJUSTED.

IMPORTANT: The time qualifying option applies to participation in EITHER a select Qualifying Event or ANY other half or full iron-distance event. (You can only qualify at USA Triathlon Sanctioned Events) This does include all 70.3 events.

Qualifer status is determined by rounding down to the nearest whole minute. For example, if you are a 27 year-old male (required qualifying time: 5:40), and your finish time is 5:40:15, you qualify.

  • If you qualify in or after August 1, 2009, you can choose to race in EITHER the 2009 or 2010 Championship.
  • You will compete in your age group as of Dec. 31, 2009.
